This is an interesting one. I don’t like the idea of spurious ticket writing, but I think it has been time for the cops to write more moving violation tickets. And if the LAPD had a quota, it must be pretty low because I see at least 5 almost-an-accidents every day caused by bad drivers (and pedestrians) doing collision-causing moves and not paying attention. Where are the police then?
I won’t even bring up cell phones. People just don’t pay attention while they’re driving. I’m guilty of it sometimes, but there are way too many distractions going on on the road and besides it; A previous accident, giant LCD billboards that keep changing, dancing statues of liberty, signs flipping and twirling in the air, hookers or hooker-like folks, yelling mentally challenged folks, funny balloon characters doing the snake. What are good drivers to do?
And then there are the people who just can’t drive. How did they get a license? Why doesn’t everyone know you really should speed up if you’re trying to pass someone? Why doesn’t everyone just get in the lane they need to be in so they won’t have to try and merge frantically at the last minute? Stop trying to outrun buses! Stop turning non-lanes into your own personal speed zone. Don’t drive into opposing traffic. And for goodness sakes people, STOP TURNING AFTER THE LIGHT IS RED! THAT’S WHAT THE YELLOW IS FOR! JEEZ!
So back the original topic, not sure if I care if the LAPD has a quota because there are plenty of legitimate tickets that need to be given. I do feel bad for the officers who were punished for not meeting their illegal quota. It would suck if your boss wrote you up for not breaking the law. Simmer on that, folks.
